Disney’s Bob Iger advised ‘The View’ hosts to reduce their criticism of Trump.

Disney’s CEO Bob Iger and ABC News head Armin Karamimedovitch are suggesting that the criticism aimed at the politically active daytime show The View, particularly regarding President Donald Trump, should be toned down, as reported.

This has led to some behind-the-scenes tension at the show, according to a report from The Daily Beast.

Back in February, the New York Post mentioned that executive producer Brian Teta had addressed the team about making Trump-related conversations easier as the January 20th inauguration approached.

It appears the directive followed an instance where co-hosts had to issue multiple legal disclaimers during a November broadcast.

A source familiar with the situation mentioned that ABC officials have been in ongoing discussions with talent based on audience feedback, and this particular instance was no different.

While The View is known for being an opinion platform, co-hosts are indeed expected to share their insights on a range of subjects, including politics.

Word is that the moderators have been asked to find a balance in their topics, which is not solely focused on Trump, as per the sources.

On Thursday’s episode, the discussions will include Trump’s comments during the recent visit of the South African president to the Oval Office and the Pentagon’s recent announcement about a new aircraft from Qatar.

Since Trump’s re-election post-2024, the panel, including Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, and others, has consistently shared commentary on administration policies.

However, senior Disney executives, like Iger and Karamimedovitch, are reportedly contemplating adjusting the tone of the program.

In recent meetings, Karamimedovitch allegedly suggested focusing more on celebrity interviews and lifestyle content, citing that these segments resonate well with viewers. While he did not frame it as an order, the proposal reportedly didn’t sit well with the panel.

Sources indicated that co-hosts, especially Navarro, have resisted these notions, as many viewers expect strong political discourse from the show.

“Our audience expects this,” a source noted, alluding to concerns about shifting away from political discussions.

In contrast, some co-hosts are determined to maintain their approach, as insiders reported.

Disney’s recent financial maneuvers have put pressure on the network’s advertisers, and Navarro is said to have expressed gratitude to Iger for supporting the show, even while he reiterated calls for less political rhetoric.

This ongoing shift in tone appears to have backing from top Disney leadership, as per the Daily Beast.

An ABC spokesperson has chosen not to comment further.

Additionally, a source mentioned that these discussions can be seen as part of ABC’s regular audience feedback process.

The View remains a strong contender in ratings for Disney’s ABC, reportedly leading daytime talk shows and news programs during the first quarter of 2025, according to Nielsen Ratings.

This internal friction comes amid broader pressures on Disney from Trump and his supporters.

In December, Disney agreed to a $16 million settlement with Trump’s library, tied to a lawsuit following an interview with ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos, where a civil verdict involving Trump was mischaracterized.

Trump is also pursuing CBS and its parent, Paramount Global, for $20 billion related to a “60 Minutes” interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris. CBS has labeled this case as without merit but is engaging in mediation to sidestep potential complications.

This fallout has already resulted in the resignation of notable figures, including the executive producer of “60 Minutes.”

Meanwhile, the Federal Communications Commissioner Brendan Kerr, aligned with Trump, has initiated investigations into Disney and ABC, voicing concerns regarding diversity and equity policies and their potential regulatory consequences.
