A live-action Disney remake of the 1937 animated classic “Snow White and the Seven Dwarf” endured a rocky production period leading up to its theatrical release this weekend.
Since production began in 2022, the film has made multiple controversial headlines, including a year-long delay, a debate over whether the title character portrayal is politically correct, and an outspoken lead actress who urged the public humiliation of Americans voting for the original Disney film and Trump.
This presents five major controversies that bothered Disney's live-action “Snow White” before it was released on Friday.

Disney shook the portrayal of the Dwarves
More than three years before the film's release, the Dwarfist A-list actor urged Walt Disney Studios to commit to reworking the portrayal of the classic “Seven Dwarf” character.
“Game of Thrones” actor Peter Dinklage even called on the studio to consider inspiring portraying modern magical dwarfs.
Speaking about the 2022 comedian Mark Maron podcast, Dinklege said, “You're progressive in one way, but you're still making a f————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
Following Dinklage's complaints, Disney announced it would take a “different approach” to portrayal of the seven dwarfs. A statement released by the studio in January 2022 stated, “We are taking a different approach with these seven characters and consulting with members of the Dwarfism community to avoid reinforcement of stereotypes from the original animated film.”
Disney eventually used CGI dwarves to portray Snow White's seven friends in the final product.

Lead actress smacks the original spirit of the animation
Lead actress Rachel Zegler has been seeking social media backlash on various occasions since the film's production began, and first took a thrill to comment describing the theme of the classic 1937 edition of “Snow White.”
At Disney's D23 Expo in 2022, the actress told the media:
Since then, Zegler has dismissed her online critics, suggesting that their response is an overreaction to her “candidity” and is “fearless” in her opinion.
Relatedly, the 2025 film doesn't feature Snow White's songs dreaming about her true love, but she puts out lyrics about becoming a leader who knows what she can do. And although there is no prince featured in the live action release, her man's love interest saves her life on two separate occasions.
The movie was a year late
After deriving the original after Disney's controversy over Dwarf's portrayal and backlash against Zegler, the studio announced in late 2023 that it would delay the release date for “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” all year round. The film was originally scheduled to be released in March 2024.
In light of the rocky production of the film up to that point, Disney critics on social media speculated that the studio would need a year behind in order to disinfect the film's supposed progressive themes and change the dwarf's final look after the diverse portrayals were ocked online.
The Hollywood Reporter, an industry outlet Alternative theory providedsuggesting that a delay occurred due to the SAG-AFTRA strike that year. “Prepare for Domino to start falling in earnest as studios compete to reposition the 2024 theatrical release calendar amid ongoing actor strikes.”

Zegler speaks in the Middle East and attacks Trump voters
In addition to raising opinions about the old “Snow White” and how to update for the modern era, Zegler has also been brought into more backlash by sharing her thoughts on the Middle East while promoting her new film.
On August 2024, the actress wrote in X, which promotes the official trailer for “Snow White.”
I wondered whether the political message was a subtle excavation of Gadot, a film co-star who defended his home country of Israel's military response to the October 7, 2023 attack on Hamastero.
Zegler created even more rage when she denounced people who voted for Donald Trump amid complaints about the outcome of the 2024 presidential election.
“Trump supporters, Trump voters and Trump herself may never know peace,” the progressive actress posted on Instagram after Trump's victory, adding “f —Donald Trump.”
After meeting Swift's pushback, Zegler apologised.
“I would like to sincerely apologize for the election post I shared on Instagram last week. My feelings made me the most. Hatred and anger have further alienated us from peace and understanding.

Disney backs the Hollywood premiere of the movie
In a move that has led onlookers to wonder if Disney has implicitly admitted concerns about how the film is received, the studio has scaled back the Hollywood premiere event for Snow White last weekend.
Variety reported last week that Disney would scale back the film's red carpet premier on March 15th, making it a smaller event than Disney's typical large-budget premiere.
The small red carpet event reportedly will not be attended by media attending the premiere to talk to the film's cast and crew. Film stars Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot were scheduled to attend pre-party and screenings at L.A. El Capitan Theatre on March 15th, but Variety reported that media reports only include photographers and house crews.
In response to the report, actor Martin Kleva, who voiced the “sick” dwarf character, expressed his disappointment about the scaled premiere.
“I'm not disappointed in Disney. I'm disappointed in the world,” he said. “We came to this place in a society where people are really working hard on this film. [Webb]the director probably has four years to put this together. [along with] Just because the producers and Disney and a few people have the opinion that not everyone feels the same way, now we have to change the fun part of making a film.
Conservative film critic Christian Toto; Hollywood host on Toto Podcastsummarizing the developments plagued by the dispute of Disney films, telling Fox News Digital that it was “the perfect storm of media mismanagement.” The journalist who runs his own website,Toto's Hollywood,“Because of more controversy,” he hopes the film's box office has drastically slowed down. ”
Toto said that when it comes to “Snow White” box office revenue, it's not everything about fate and darkness. “It might still make some cash,” he said, “Disney brands are essential in some quarters, and children's movies often stay in theaters for several weeks.
“But Disney took more than a few rakes along the way, damaging the overall box office potential,” he concluded.
