Disorder Breaks Out in Minneapolis After Border Patrol Shooting as People Confront Federal Agents

Unrest in South Minneapolis Following Shooting by Border Patrol Agents

On Saturday, a shooting involving Border Patrol agents sparked significant unrest in a south Minneapolis community. Crowds quickly filled the streets, confronting federal agents and clashing with law enforcement as they tried to manage the situation. What started as a seemingly spontaneous gathering escalated, with some individuals blocking traffic and surrounding vehicles, which forced agents into protective stances amid the growing chaos.

Footage shared on social media by Gunther Eagleman captures the chaotic scene, where a large crowd attempted to confront ICE and Border Patrol agents. The video shows federal officers using tear gas to disperse the crowd. Eagleman expressed on social media, “This is exactly why the Insurrection Act needs to be invoked!”

According to officials from the Department of Homeland Security, nearly 200 people gathered at the scene, disrupting law enforcement and impeding investigation efforts.

Reports indicate that the violence escalated after agents shot and killed an armed man near a donut shop while conducting a targeted operation against an illegal alien suspected of violent assault. Officials stated that the man approached investigators with a 9mm handgun.

In another post, Eagleman blamed Mayor Frey and Governor Tim Walz, saying, “This is 100% Mayor Frey and Tim Walz’s fault.” He shared a video illustrating the chaotic protests led by anti-ICE individuals.

During the event, at least one protester appeared to sustain a broken leg, as seen in another video by Cam Higbee, which shows officers transporting injured individuals away from the turmoil.

Officials later shared a photo of the handgun allegedly retrieved from the deceased man’s belongings. DHS noted their officers attempted to disarm the suspect but faced violent resistance.

In a statement, officials explained, “Fearing for his life and the safety of his fellow officers, the officer fired defensive shots. Medics on scene provided immediate medical aid, but the subject was pronounced dead at the scene.” The suspect had two additional magazines and no identification. DHS commented that “this appears to be a situation where an individual attempted to cause maximum harm and massacre law enforcement.”

As the investigation unfolds, federal officials indicated that the violence seen in Minneapolis reflects a troubling trend in immigration enforcement across the country. The willingness of protesters to confront agents at active crime scenes and obstruct medical assistance represents a serious escalation beyond typical protests.

The city has reported an increase in assaults targeting ICE and Border Patrol agents recently, with Saturday’s violence highlighting a concerning environment characterized by armed suspects, hostile crowds, and heated political discourse—creating unprecedented risks for those enforcing federal laws.
