Disqualification Is ‘Possible’ for Fani Willis in Trump Case

There is a possibility of being disqualified from Fulton County Prosecutor Fannie Willis her lawsuit against former President Donald Trump; Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee said during Monday’s hearing.

If the judge determines Thursday that Willis did in fact have a conflict of interest with his girlfriend and fellow prosecutors; Willis will be removed from the case, handing Trump a major victory in the Georgia election interference case.

In court filings, Mr. Willis acknowledged his relationship with Nathan Wade, the man he appointed to prosecute Mr. Trump, but denied that the relationship interfered with the case.

Mr. Trump and co-defendant Mike Roman have accused Mr. Willis and Mr. Wade of the following corruption charges:

  1. maintain an inappropriate romantic relationship
  2. enriching one’s pockets through tax-funded prosecutions
  3. Meeting with Biden administration officials before indictment of Trump and co-defendants

Judge McAfee: “I think it’s clear that disqualification can occur if evidence of an actual conflict or appearance of a conflict is presented.” Said. “The State has acknowledged that a relationship existed. Therefore, what has not yet been proven is the existence and extent of any economic interest, if any. Therefore, it is possible that the facts alleged by the defendants could lead to disqualification.” I think there is some evidence that there needs to be an evidentiary hearing to establish the record regarding these core allegations.”

“I think the questions here are whether a relationship existed, whether it was romantic or non-romantic in nature, when it was formed, and whether it continues. “And that is relevant because it is combined with the question of the existence and extent of personal interests that are transmitted as a result of their relationship,” he added.

The judge ruled that Mr. Wade and Mr. Willis must testify on Thursday, despite attempts by Mr. Willis to prevent them from testifying.

Willis’ legal team protested the judge’s ruling. “Nothing they may say in any way supports the wild speculation contained in this motion,” Fulton County Prosecutor Anna Cross told the judge.

“This is a serious incident. These are serious charges,” Cross added. “Defense attorneys are bringing gossip to you…and courts should not tolerate that kind of behavior.”
