Disruptive, intoxicated passengers get Newark-bound United flight diverted to ME

A United Airlines flight from London to Newark, New Jersey, was diverted to Bangor International Airport on Friday due to poor etiquette by a passenger, airline officials said.

Two passengers who appeared to be intoxicated became disoriented and were removed from United Airlines Flight 883, which landed in Bangor late Friday morning, a spokeswoman said. Future flights are prohibited.

The plane originally carried 150 passengers, but then ended its flight to New Jersey.

When the Boeing 767 landed, it was greeted by officers from the Bangor Police Department. Bangor police said the two passengers were removed and the FBI and Customs and Border Protection are investigating.

One of them was taken into custody after consultation with federal prosecutors, the FBI said. The FBI said the incident was not related to terrorism, but declined to release further details.
