Disruptive passenger restrained with zip ties after attempting to open cabin door during outburst on flight to Texas

A chaotic situation unfolded on a flight from Tokyo to Houston when a passenger attempted to open an emergency door mid-air. Fellow travelers had to step in to restrain him after the flight made an emergency landing.

The ordeal began early Saturday morning when a man, who has not been identified, abruptly got out of his seat and attempted to open the emergency door on an All Nippon Airways flight. Reports indicate this prompted panic among those on board.

Other passengers and crew members managed to subdue the unruly individual using zip ties while the aircraft diverted to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

A passenger sitting nearby shared her shock at the situation, explaining how the man had stood up and acted strangely, leading her to initially think he might be unwell.

The woman who recorded the incident noted that two veterans quickly came forward to assist and helped secure the man back in his seat. “They took him to their seat and tied him down,” she mentioned.

“I really appreciate the brave passengers who helped control the situation. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to do,” she added.

Officials have stated that the man appears to have been experiencing some sort of medical crisis. He was taken off the plane shortly after its landing in Seattle, around 6:19 a.m., and was then transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

Details about whether he faced any charges remain unclear.

In a related incident, authorities removed another passenger from the flight before it could head to Bush International Airport, which was the original destination. Reports state that this second passenger had also become disruptive on the tarmac in Seattle.

The airline later confirmed that both individuals were barred from flying by the Seattle Police. They stated, “The flight to Houston continued without further issues. Passenger and crew safety is our top priority, and we appreciate the efforts of local law enforcement in managing the situation.”
