Distressed Staten Island teenager charged with beheading mother's partner reveals graphic confession details

Teen Charged with Murder After Gruesome Confession

A Staten Island teenager, charged with killing his mother’s boyfriend, reportedly made a graphic confession. He allegedly expressed a desire to dispose of the body by using a blender, starting with the brain, and suggested flushing it down the toilet, according to law enforcement officials.

Damien Haastel, 19, is claimed to have calmly told police at the NYPD’s 120th Station that he hit the 45-year-old health department official in the head with a meat mallet, causing fatal injuries because he wanted to experience what it felt like to kill someone, an official shared.

This confession surfaced after Haastel, who has a known history of mental health issues, was taken into custody on Monday night.

Reportedly, he had a confrontation with his mother earlier in the day. Following this, he told the boyfriend—whose identity has not been released—to go for a walk to cool down.

When Haastel returned home to find his mother absent, another argument ensued, during which the fatal attack occurred. It seems there were plans to cut the body into smaller pieces, but they faced difficulties during this morbid task.

Initially, the suspect attempted to remove the victim’s head with a knife, but that effort failed. Officials noted that he resorted to using a saw from the shed to complete the gruesome act.

Sources revealed that he later took a hammer to remove the brain but was interrupted by his sister coming home from school, which ultimately led to the shocking discovery and his arrest.

Haastel was set to face charges of murder and weapon possession on Tuesday afternoon. However, he experienced a seizure while being transported to court and was taken to the hospital instead.
