Incident at Vice President’s Home
A man was arrested on Monday for reportedly breaking windows at Vice President J.D. Vance’s residence in Ohio. This individual, William DeFoor, 26, has a documented history of mental illness and prior charges related to criminal property damage, as noted in court documents.
Authorities stated that DeFoor entered Vance’s Cincinnati property and smashed four windows during a family outing. He had been previously charged in Hamilton County in 2024 for property damage but was found mentally unfit for trial, according to court records.
Following the incident, Vance expressed gratitude for the support received regarding the attack on his home, stating, “Some crazy person tried to break in by banging on the window. We would like to thank the Secret Service and Cincinnati Police Department for their quick response.” He noted that he was not home at the time.
Documents indicate that DeFoor is currently facing multiple charges related to the vandalism at Vance’s home. However, no attorney has been listed for him as of now.
In another incident, DeFoor was arrested in April 2023 near the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine for failing to comply with police orders to leave the area and for refusing to provide information to authorities during his arrest.
A judge stated in November 2023 that DeFoor was unable to comprehend the legal proceedings against him and could not assist in his own defense. The judge expressed concern about DeFoor’s potential for becoming competent to stand trial within the legally required time frame and dismissed the case.
In August 2024, DeFoor faced two additional counts of property damage but was released pending medical treatment. The situation surrounding his recent actions remains fluid, demonstrating ongoing challenges related to his mental health.
