Police Officer Convicted of Rapes After Past Allegations
A man was permitted to join the police force despite facing accusations of child rape and later committing multiple horrific assaults against children under 13. The perpetrator, 24-year-old Cliff Mitchell, has left his victims traumatized, describing him as a “devil” and a “pathetic excuse for a man.”
One victim expressed her deep anger, saying, “You are the devil. You hate me. I hope you continue to suffer for the rest of your life.”
Things took a turn for the worse when it was revealed that Mitchell was hired as a police officer even though he had pending child rape allegations. Initially, his application was denied in 2020 due to allegations dating back to 2018, but the Immigration Board’s decision to overturn this rejection led to his enlistment.
In September 2023, a prosecutor revealed that Mitchell kidnapped one of his victims using a knife, binding her hands with zip ties and taping her mouth shut before raping her. Disturbingly, he laughed at her pleas, stating that no one would believe her because of his position as a police officer.
Ultimately, he was convicted of ten counts of rape, four counts of raping a child under the age of 13, one count of kidnapping, and violating a sexual assault restraining order.
“You deserve to spend the rest of your life in solitary confinement because you are a serious danger to every woman walking the streets,” one of the victims told Mitchell in court. Another victim added, “You robbed me of my self-respect. You’re a pathetic excuse for a man.”
Mrs. Justice May remarked on Mitchell’s troubling behavior, noting that his crimes likely stemmed from a desire for control. She anticipated that his brief tenure as a police officer would make his time in prison significantly harsher.
Amidst growing calls for diversity in recruitment, it appears that other problematic individuals were also able to join the force during this time, raising concerns about safety and accountability.
