DNC chair on leaked call states Hogg ‘essentially undermined’ initial credibility

DNC chair on leaked call says Hogg 'essentially destroyed' initial credibility

DNC Chairman Critiques Vice-Chair in Candid Exchange

At a recent gathering, Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Ken Martin expressed frustration over Vice-Chair David Hogg’s impact on party leadership, stating he had “essentially destroyed” chances for a successful lead within the committee. This was revealed in leaked audio acquired by Politico.

During a Zoom meeting with DNC officials on May 15, Martin seemed visibly upset when addressing Hogg, a noted gun control advocate with a rising national profile, particularly concerning his views on opposing President Trump and the GOP.

Martin remarked, “Who actually knows who I am? I’ve worked hard to gain some credibility.”

“And I don’t think you intended this, but you’ve really undermined my ability to demonstrate the leadership I need to show. It’s genuinely frustrating,” he continued.

The discussion occurred shortly after the DNC suggested holding new elections for certain seats, including those held by Hogg and other vice-chairmen, with a decision set for Monday.

In the recorded dialogue, Martin mentioned his respect for progressive activists but began to doubt if the internal conflicts were beneficial for the party’s future.

“It’s not perfect, and we’re all striving for improvement, but the more we engage in this battle, the more complicated it becomes to achieve our goals,” Martin elaborated.

“I have immense respect for you, David. I was eager to collaborate, but this has altered the situation. I want to be honest with you.”

In a follow-up statement, Martin asserted that he was committed to his role: “I’m not going anywhere.” He emphasized the need to focus on opposing Republicans rather than turning against fellow Democrats, stating, “Our fight is against Donald Trump and the harmful Republican agenda, and that’s what I will continue to do every day.”

MSNBC host and former DNC advisor Symone Sanders Townsend later defended Martin, noting in a post on social media that he had a moment of vulnerability with his colleagues. She criticized the anonymous individual who recorded and leaked the conversation, suggesting they lacked a genuine connection to the DNC’s mission.

“From my experience in the DNC, it’s clear that there are too many people in the organization for the wrong reasons,” she added.
