A breakfast meeting for delegates attending the Democratic National Convention in Chicago was interrupted Wednesday morning after maggots were allegedly intentionally mixed into the food, WGN first reported.
The DNC 2024 Joint Information Center also confirmed the incident to Fox News Digital, acknowledging the food contamination.
Authorities said multiple unidentified female assailants are suspected of entering the building and placing an unknown object on a table containing food.
Authorities said the gunmen then appeared to leave the scene and one victim was treated at the scene and released.

Officials said the Chicago Police Department, as well as the FBI’s Chicago field office, are assisting in the investigation.
Multiple law enforcement sources told WGN that the maggots were likely brought to the hotel by activists trying to send a message.
“All Americans have the right to peaceful protest, but these heinous attacks have no place in our democracy,” said Sam Varloga, a spokesman for the Indiana Democratic Party. “We thank our security teams for their swift response.”
While neither the DNC Information Center nor the Fairmont have acknowledged the presence of maggots, we can confirm that the incident has raised food safety concerns for DNC breakfast guests.

“We can confirm that a group of people caused a disturbance at a Democratic National Convention breakfast held at our hotel this morning and we appreciate the swift police response,” the Chicago Fairmont said in a statement to Fox News Digital.
The hotel added that the safety, security and health of guests and staff remain its top priority.
“Our teams immediately began cleaning and sanitizing the site to ensure the event could continue without further incident. We maintain the highest standards of food safety and cleanliness throughout our properties and have strict procedures in place to handle any disruptions,” the Chicago Fairmont continued.

It was not immediately clear whether the contamination was discovered before the delegation consumed the food.
Indiana delegate Tracy Boyd, who is representing the Indianapolis area at the convention, told WGN that her group was informed that breakfast service would be slightly delayed as a result of the incident.

“Obviously they protected us and turned things around within minutes and I want to express my sincere gratitude to the hotel staff and management,” Boyd said.
