Doctor Criticized for 'Callous' Apology After Blaming Texans for Floods

Houston Pediatrician Apologizes After Controversial Comments on Flood Tragedy

A pediatrician in Houston, who recently lost her job, has issued an apology following her remarks regarding the devastating flood in Texas.

Dr. Christina B. Propst, previously employed at Bluefish Pediatrics, released an official statement reflecting on her earlier comments about the disaster. A news report indicated this occurred on Wednesday.

Medical experts faced significant backlash for Propst’s initial online post, which was labeled “vile.”

She had stated, “Ensure that everyone—children, non-Maga voters, and pets—are safe and dry. Kerr County voted for the intestinal fema. They deny climate change. They’re getting what they voted for.”

Her words come as central Texas grapples with the aftermath of the floods that struck on July 4th, resulting in tragic loss of life among both adults and children.

On Sunday, Bluefish announced that Dr. Propst is no longer with the practice.

In her apology shared through one news outlet, Propst expressed, “As a mother, neighbor, and pediatrician, I accept full responsibility for my social media comments before I realized how many lives were tragically lost in this event. I understand that my words caused pain to those suffering profound sadness, and for that, I sincerely apologize.” She attempted to clarify that her earlier comments were not meant to address the loss of human life, though she acknowledged they were her own and that she deeply regretted them.

She continued, “I apologize to all who are enduring the terrible losses during this difficult time. With the tragic news unfolding, I deleted my comments because they did not reflect the compassion or respect I hold for human life. Unfortunately, my remarks were shared in a misleading context, suggesting they were made after the loss of life was known.” Propst reaffirmed that her choice of words stemmed from frustration about the need for better community and disaster support, but admitted her choice was poorly timed and was perceived as a reaction to the tragedy.

Propst expressed her concern for the community, saying, “For all the families affected by this tragedy, the heart of every Texan is heavy. I pray those in distress find peace in the difficult days ahead and that we can work together to heal and recover.” She concluded her statement by emphasizing her commitment to serve her community moving forward.

Despite her apology, many social media users questioned her sincerity, with some labeling her response as “the most heartless apology I’ve ever heard.” Others expressed disbelief in her statements, with sentiments that she should not practice medicine again.

Recent reports revealed that the number of deaths from the floods has surpassed 100, with 170 individuals still reported missing.
