America’s Ongoing Struggle for Sovereignty

Glenn Beck emphasizes that America is currently in a “living battle for sovereignty and independence.” The urgency of the situation is undeniable. Recent rulings from the Supreme Court have reinforced the president’s authority over independent agencies while also buttressing key constitutional rights.

Glenn states, “Government agencies and global influences continually strive for increased control, pushing for subtle modifications to our foundational freedoms, and this needs to cease.” He adds, “Independence is not something to be bartered for comfort. True freedom is often uncomfortable. It must be asserted and protected without hesitation.”

He recalls a poignant letter from John Adams, written during his final days, intended for the 50th celebration of American Independence. Adams noted, “The significant moments in human history will either brighten or darken future pages, shaped by the use or misuse of political structures, guided ultimately by the human spirit.” Glenn finds it remarkable how perceptive the founders were regarding human nature and America’s potential trajectory.

In less than a century, Woodrow Wilson—who Glenn states he does not disdain—publicly critiqued the Declaration of Independence. Wilson believed many were clinging to its principles while resisting the “progressive” changes he envisioned for the nation.

“Wilson essentially upends the declaration. He argues that rights are not inherent but rather granted by the government,” Glenn explains, referring to what he sees as the core of progressivism, now often referred to as democratic socialism.

In stark contrast, Abraham Lincoln held the Declaration of Independence in high regard. Glenn quotes Lincoln, who stated that the principles contained within “apply to all people at all times… They will serve as both a rebuke and a challenge to the very forces of tyranny that will inevitably rise again.”

Glenn expresses concern, saying, “I can’t help but think that this radical idea of freedom may not always be embraced in America, especially with our current loss of liberties.” He warns that the foundational principles of the Declaration are increasingly under siege by the left, who wish for such principles to be forgotten. “That’s why it’s crucial to familiarize ourselves with it,” he insists.

He fondly reminisces about that iconic moment in 1826 when John Adams requested a toast to be made in his honor on Independence Day. His simple words were, “Independence Forever.” When asked if he had anything more to say, Adams replied, “No, I have nothing to add.”

“Now, that’s the kind of spirit we truly need today,” Glenn reflects.
