CNN Postpones Documentary Following Assassination Attempt on Trump
CNN has decided to delay the airing of Farid Zakaria’s documentary titled “The Imperial Presidency” after an assassination attempt on President Donald Trump on Saturday night.
California teacher Cole Allen is expected to appear in court on Monday facing charges related to the discharge of a firearm and assaulting a federal officer during a violent crime. Zakaria announced the postponement on X just hours before the documentary was supposed to air on Sunday at 9 PM ET.
In a post, Zakaria said, “An update: my latest documentary on CNN, ‘The Imperial Presidency,’ will be aired at a later date. We will keep you posted.”
The documentary aims to explore the growth of presidential power in the U.S., tracing its evolution over the years, especially since before Trump’s administration. It seeks to understand how the presidency has expanded beyond the original vision of the nation’s founders.
Some protesters, identified as part of the “No Kings” movement, have voiced concerns about Trump allegedly overstepping his constitutional boundaries. For instance, his implementation of sweeping tariffs has drawn criticism. In a decision earlier this year, the Supreme Court ruled that Trump exceeded his authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), invalidating the use of that law for cross-taxation on imports.
Reports indicate that Allen, the alleged shooter, has connections to at least one “No Kings” protest group. At a protest on October 18, some participants reportedly issued death threats against Trump and other prominent conservative figures. Journalist Brandi Kruse shared a video of a protester at the No Kings rally in Seattle, who was asked about a sign he held that read, “Why not kill a Nazi?”
During the interview, the individual expressed a desire to kill Stephen Miller, the president’s chief of staff, whom he labeled a “Nazi.” Subsequently, Kruse noted that the FBI is investigating these threats.
Another video from the protest showed a participant stating that killing Miller would be “justified.” Additionally, a protester mentioned a desire to wake up and see Trump’s obituary on his birthday.
