Dodgers defeat Brewers in Game 2 thanks to a strong performance by Yoshinobu Yamamoto

Dodgers Lead Series with Victory Over Brewers

The Los Angeles Dodgers secured a strong 2-0 series lead against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday at American Family Field, winning 5-1, thanks to an impressive complete game pitched by Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Interestingly, prior to Yamamoto, the last complete game in postseason history was thrown by Justin Verlander of the Houston Astros against the New York Yankees in Game 2 of the 2017 ALCS, marking an eight-year span between their accomplishments. This was a notable milestone for Yamamoto, being his first complete game in the Major League Baseball.

The start of the game, however, was rocky for him. The Brewers quickly took a 1-0 lead when Jackson Chourio, their right fielder, hit a fastball deep into the right field seats. But, remarkably, Yamamoto maintained his composure, allowing only two more hits throughout the game. By the end, he had allowed one run on three hits and one walk, racking up seven strikeouts against the Brewers.

“After Chourio’s home run, I reset my mind and focused on my pitching,” Yamamoto explained through an interpreter.

His performance coincided with a night where two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell delivered eight shutout innings, allowing just one hit, leading to a tight 2-1 win for his team.

Max Muncy, the Dodgers’ third baseman, highlighted their strategy, saying, “We talked before the postseason that our starting pitchers would carry us. So far, that’s been the case.” He also made a mark by setting a Dodgers record with his 14th postseason home run during this game.

The Dodgers have been on a solid trajectory, finishing the regular season strong and continuing that momentum into the postseason. They’ve won nine out of their last 11 games in the regular season and are currently 7-1 in the playoffs.

Manager Dave Roberts praised the team’s performance, stating, “The entire team is playing the best baseball we’ve had all year. His level of focus and concentration is at its best and he’s peaking at the right time.”

Looking ahead, Game 3 of the National League Championship Series between the Dodgers and Brewers is set for Thursday at 6:08 p.m. ET, with the next game taking place at Dodger Stadium.
