Dodgers pitcher Blake Treinen highlights his Christian faith before the World Series: 'Make heaven crowded'

Blake Treinen Highlights His Faith Amid Dodgers’ Challenges

Blake Treinen, a pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, is once again voicing his Christian beliefs. Alongside renowned pitcher Clayton Kershaw, Treinen has stood up for religious liberty during turbulent times in California.

In 2023, after pro-trans activists were invited to Dodger Stadium, Treinen criticized them for, he says, “mocking the religious practices of nuns.” He expressed that it was particularly hurtful as “What [Catholics] do touches me deeply.”

As the Dodgers prepare for their second consecutive World Series, Treinen shared how deeply entwined his faith is with his life. “I think my family’s name is significant in the eyes of God; still, in the eyes of the world, few really know the Treinens,” he remarked. “Whether or not people recognize us doesn’t really matter to me. I want them to see the greatness of Christ and how He’s been part of my journey.”

Treinen’s desire extends beyond personal success; he voiced concern for those around him. “I certainly don’t want to see any of my teammates, or anyone, really, face the alternative of not experiencing heaven,” he noted. “How can we make heaven popular? That’s truly my aim.”

He concluded his thoughts by stating, “Each gift we’ve been given is a way we can honor God, and when I eventually enter heaven, I hope to hear, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant.’”

Meanwhile, Kershaw has also made headlines due to his religious beliefs, particularly during the Dodgers’ Gay Pride Night celebration earlier this season. While he expressed discomfort about sharing the spotlight with the event in 2023, that June, he highlighted his faith by wearing a rainbow-themed cap adorned with the message from Genesis about God’s covenant. Players even included Bible verses alongside the Pride logo.

The Dodgers’ season has been fraught with controversy, caught between California’s increasingly progressive landscape and a largely conservative fanbase. In June, an activist singer drew attention by singing the national anthem in Spanish at a Dodger game to protest deportation policies affecting Hispanic immigrants.

Adding to the challenges, the team faced scrutiny over reports that ICE agents were using their facility as a staging ground, though there have been mixed responses about this matter from the organization. Furthermore, a discrimination lawsuit was filed against the team regarding their diversity hiring practices.

The controversies escalated with the resignation of a Make-A-Wish Foundation executive in October after he was recorded threatening to call ICE on Dodgers fans during a playoff game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
