Dodgers signing Tanner Scott to $72 million deal in free agency

The Dodgers keep adding.

On Thursday, they acquired the contract of Japanese star pitcher Roki Sasaki, adding him to a rotation that already includes Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell.

And on Sunday, the Post's Jon Heyman confirmed that they agreed to a four-year, $72 million contract with All-Star closer Tanner Scott in free agency.

Left-handed Scott, who appeared in 44 games with the Marlins last year and made 18 saves before being traded to the Padres at the deadline, is the top reliever available to stay and received interest from the Mets, including a meeting, before signing A.J. Ta. Minter earlier this week.

The Mets are unlikely to continue pursuing Scott as another high-leverage arm to pair with Edwin Diaz after acquiring fellow left-hander Minter.

The Dodgers' bullpen in recent years, especially the closer spot, was one of the glaring weaknesses until it helped shut down opponents heading into the 2024 World Series.

Now that Scott is in the bullpen, that shouldn't be the case anymore.
