The Department of Education (DOE) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) under President Donald Trump announced on Friday the formation of a team to address the large number of upcoming Title IX complaints.
The aim of the “Title IX Special Investigation Team” (SIT) is to ensure timely responses. According to a press release from the department, “This action is a steadfast approach to safeguard students, especially female athletes, from the detrimental effects of gender ideology within school programs and activities, as numerous states led by Democrats continue to disregard President Trump’s executive directives that restrict women’s sports teams and their competition as per Title IX.” Title IX prohibits discrimination based on sex in any education program or federally funded activity.
“The creation of today’s Title IX SIT will support women and girls in the nation who face discrimination and mistreatment in their educational pursuits,” stated Education Secretary Linda McMahon. “From the outset, the Trump administration has placed a premium on enforcing Title IX to safeguard female students and athletes.”

“Historically, our Office for Civil Rights (OCR) has taken months, or even years, to finish Title IX investigations. Under this administration, OCR has accelerated its processes. “To those organizations that continue to permit men in women’s sports and access to women’s private facilities, a new authority is here. We will not tolerate the infringement of women’s civil rights.”
SIT will optimize Title IX investigations by assembling a specialized team from the DOJ, which will ultimately deploy a “rapid resolution investigation methodology” alongside DOE and DOJ, as stated by the department. This includes investigators and legal professionals from the DOE’s Civil Rights Office (OCR), DOE Legal Counsel, Case Workers from the DOE Student Privacy and Protection Office, FSA Enforcement Investigators, and attorneys from the DOJ’s Civil Rights Office.
“Safeguarding women and their sports is a crucial goal for this Department of Justice,” Attorney General Pamela Bondy remarked in a statement. “This collaborative initiative with the Department of Education will empower attorneys to take decisive action against threats to women’s sports and spaces, employing the full legal authority to address violations of women’s civil rights.”

President Trump’s executive order to “exclude men from women’s sports” ensures that female student athletes “are not exposed or contested in front of men.” Additionally, federal departments are instructed to “reevaluate grants for educational programs and, if necessary, withdraw funding for programs failing to adhere to the policies outlined in this order.”
President Trump’s executive directive: “Protect women from gender ideological extremism and restore biological truth to the federal government” further states that “[t]he dilution of sex in language and policies has a damaging impact on the integrity of not only women but the entire American system.”
