For teenagers brought up in religious communities, entering college can be a jarring experience. They often find themselves at odds with a prevailing secular perspective that challenges everything they’ve been taught, leading some to wonder if their beliefs can hold up under scrutiny.
This tension is partly why a new documentary has been created. all stories suggests the film may resonate especially with students dealing with complex issues. It will hit theaters for a week-long limited release starting April 30th.
The film, while aimed at a wide audience, speaks directly to those navigating the academic landscape. all stories posits that science doesn’t necessarily undermine faith in God, but instead indicates a Designer, incorporating insights from qualified experts in a serious yet accessible manner.
Drawing inspiration from the popular book God’s Return Hypothesis by Stephen C. Meyer of the Discovery Institute, the film features prominent figures like Meyer, along with various philosophers and scientists such as John Lennox, Jay W. Richards, and Peter Thiel. Christian apologist Lee Strobel is noted as the executive producer.
“When students arrive at college, they often face a barrage of scientific atheism that challenges and sometimes mocks their belief in God,” Meyer mentioned, stressing that the film aims to provide faith-driven young people “confidence that their beliefs are valid.”
Unlike traditional apologetic films focused solely on scripture, all stories is centered on science, examining historical concepts regarding the universe’s origins while presenting new research supporting the notion of an intelligent designer as a compelling explanation for existence. Ben Bird, known for When Your Heart Calls, was involved in production.
Meyer asserts that the concept of a theistic designer aptly explains major advancements in our understanding of biological and cosmic origins. He highlights evidence suggesting that the universe had a beginning and cannot exist eternally, noting how finely tuned it is for life against considerable odds.
“What we need,” he explains, “is a transcendent cause—something capable of purposefully initiating the universe at specific moments, which is very God-like.” He also mentions the intricate complexity of every living cell as a key argument for intelligent design.
“Bill Gates once compared DNA to a software program, but it’s even more intricate than any software we’ve created,” Meyer pointed out. “And we understand that software originates from programmers. So, the presence of information in the life code suggests a master programmer behind it all.”
Meyer avoids asserting that science definitively “proves” God’s existence, preferring to say it “points” toward Him instead. “That’s a strength,” he explained. “The challenge with the term ‘proof’ is that only disciplines like math and logic can really provide that.”
He hopes the documentary will bolster the faith of believers and, perhaps, open the minds of skeptics. “I’ve received numerous emails from skeptics, including those with physics degrees or biology PhDs, who’ve read God’s Return Hypothesis. We’re hoping to create a similar dialogue with this film,” he concluded.
