Dog digs up piece of ancient bomb in Florida backyard

This dog is dynamite.

A Florida man got the shock of his life last week when his dog changed from a dog with bones to a dog with a bomb after finding an unexploded bomb in his backyard.

Matthew Sims was playing with his puppy, named Baby, in the backyard of his 15th Street home in Jacksonville on Wednesday when the curious dog started digging a hole near his fence, local police said. That’s what it means. According to FOX 30.

Sims walked over to see if she had picked up anything she shouldn’t have, and that’s when he noticed something sticking out of the ground.

“I didn’t know what it was until I started pulling it up,” Sims told the network. “Once I understood half of it, I thought, ‘Okay, I’ve got this, let’s gently put it back together.'”

The homeowner said the baby found fragments of a small military weapon about a foot long and weighing about 10 pounds.

Police reports said the decomposed object appeared to have been buried for some time because its metal was rusty.

“Yes, is this live?” Sims said to himself when he discovered a small bomb-like piece of debris about six inches under the ground. “When you panic, you fall.”

Police evacuated residents as explosive ordnance squads arrived to remove antique explosives.

Despite the chaos, neighbor Carla Smith told the network she wasn’t worried.

“We were just watching,” she said. “I wasn’t scared because I was close to the people who found artifacts on the land.”

“For me, it was interesting to watch,” she continued. “They did what they had to do, and they were out of here in a few minutes.”

How the weapon ended up in the garden of a suburban home remains a mystery. But Mr Sims said he was glad he had found it so he could dispose of it.
