A clip featuring seven dogs making their way home from thieves in northeast China has gained over 230 million views, capturing viewers’ hearts with their bravery and loyalty.
The footage was taken by a local man named Lu, who spotted the dogs running along a highway close to Changchun city in Jilin province on March 16. Leading the group was a courageous corgi, frequently glancing back to ensure the others were following. Meanwhile, the rest of the pack gathered around an injured German Shepherd, shielding him as they moved.
“They seem like a band of troubled brothers, moving together. They’re not what you’d expect from stray dogs,” Lu remarked.said.
Remarkably, the dogs proceeded down the highway with purpose, undeterred by Lu’s attempts to lead them to safety. He shared the video online, hoping local officials would step in to help the dogs.
The public response exceeded Lu’s expectations, sparking a widespread interest in the “band of little brothers.” Local animal rights groups dispatched volunteers and drones to track their journey, and onlookers believed the dogs were all from the same village and were trying to return home.
By March 19th, local volunteers said the dogs had successfully returned home after covering over 10 miles in roughly two days.
“We’re fortunate they made it back safe,” one owner commented, alluding to the concern that thieves might have intended to use the dog as bait.
Dog theft remains a significant issue in China, where in some areas, dog meat is still treated as a delicacy, often accompanied by age-old beliefs that eating dog helps endure harsh winters. Since raising dogs for meat is costly and controversial, thieves often target strays to steal household pets.
Users on social media expressed their adoration for the dogs, commending their unity and dedication to ensuring that none were left behind during the arduous trek.
One commenter noted, “This teamwork surpasses what’s seen in many corporate offices.”
“Think about it—being kidnapped, scared, and still managing to band together for your loved ones, while us humans can’t even navigate our own neighborhoods properly. That’s courage and connection… Someone should reward that corgi,” another commented.
“Dogs epitomize loyalty to their friends, while those who harm dogs seem undeniably less human,” stated a third.
