Dog Found Alone in the US with Heartfelt Message from Former Owner

This past January, a mixed pit bull and boxer was found abandoned in a park in Atlanta, with a note from its previous owner attached. The five-year-old dog was taken in temporarily by a couple, but they couldn’t keep him for the long run, as reported.

In an effort to help, they posted a photo of the dog, named Andre, on Facebook, sharing the emotional message that was left with him. Tara Borelli, a nonprofit lawyer, came across this post and learned that Andre had been left near a popular park in Atlanta during a snowstorm at the end of January.

Borelli remarked that even though the weather was harsh and it was advised to stay indoors, she felt compelled to act. “I saw this dog that needed help,” she shared. The note found with Andre described the heartbreaking situation of his previous owner, who was homeless and could no longer care for him.

The letter detailed how Andre’s owner felt devastated, stating, “I’m a very good dog. The shelter doesn’t take me.” This implies a desperate hope that someone would see Andre and take him in, as the previous owner believed being left in the park would give him “maximum visibility.”

Though Borelli took care of him for several months, her own dog’s health issues meant she couldn’t adopt Andre permanently. In April, she made the tough decision to ensure Andre found a more permanent home.

Fulton County Animal Services joined forces with local animal advocates to find a suitable family for Andre. Fortunately, by early May, the community’s support paired with Andre’s charming personality allowed him to secure a new home in Atlanta. The new family plans to foster him for a month to ensure a smooth transition.

If all goes well, Andre will be officially adopted.
