A pet owner claims her dog was hospitalised after ingesting cannabis whilst on a walk, and is warning others.
Stephen Davidson was recently walking his 8-year-old West Highland terrier named Oscar when he noticed the dog had started behaving strangely.
According to SWNS, Davidson said that just a few hours after she started walking the dog in the town of Sheerness in Kent, England, Oscar became lethargic and stopped drinking water.

After rushing Oscar to an emergency vet, doctors determined he had somehow ingested marijuana, British Press Agency reported.

“They put something down his throat to see if he would choke straight away, but he didn’t. It took a while,” Ms Davidson told SWNS. “That’s when they said he’d been drugged.”

According to pet care resource PetMD, symptoms of drug poisoning in pets include vomiting, lethargy, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, excessive salivation, loss of coordination and blood in the urine.
Oscar spent the night in an emergency veterinary clinic receiving intravenous fluids and activated charcoal, but Davidson said the puppy “could have died” from dehydration, SWNS reported.

Davidson said she now has nearly $1,000 in vet bills she hopes will be covered by pet insurance, and she also wants to warn other pet owners of the potential drug problem in the area.

“The situation in the town is terrible, people smoke everywhere and throw them on the ground,” he told SWNS.
Davidson said she plans to eventually return to the area where she and Oscar usually take walks, but not anytime soon.

“I just ask people to be extra vigilant about what their dogs pick up and be aware of hazards when out walking,” he said.

Davidson reportedly took in Oscar from the UK-based veterinary charity People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA) when she was in need.
PDSA nurse Nina Downing told SWNS that dogs could easily ingest cannabis or any drug while being walked in public places.

“If you suspect your dog may have eaten cannabis, it’s wise to take them to the vet as soon as possible rather than waiting until symptoms appear,” she says.
