A dog was found alive at Michigan's Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore last week after jumping off a cliff and spending the night alone in subfreezing temperatures, officials said.
Dancer, a 3-year-old dog described as a “professional troublemaker,” fell off his leash Wednesday night and fell 60 feet off a cliff near Miner's Castle onto a ledge, according to the National Park Service (NPS).
Believing she had died in the fall, Dancer's owners searched for hours in the dark but were unable to find their beloved pet, authorities said.
Park rangers and a local rope rescue team, Superior High Angle Rescue Professionals, continued to search for Dancer along a “dangerous area” along the shores of Lake Superior, according to the NPS.

Sharp team members Eric Olsen, Westley Shafer and Tyler Davis searched the area where Dancer fell Thursday morning and found the dog alive. Park officials said the dancers were cold, but no injuries were reported.
“She had spent the night trying to get warm and was excited to meet rescuers,” NPS said.

Park rangers warned visitors to remain aware of lakefront conditions this winter and to always be prepared.
“Many areas of Pictured Rocks are more accessible than usual due to the mild start to winter this year,” Chief Ranger Joe Hughes said. “It is still important to remember to be prepared for conditions that can be slippery, cold and rapidly changing.”
