They fought like big dogs and cats.

Shocking video shows a dog named Holly Jolie being attacked by a mountain lion in her California garden, then fighting back to survive the next day.

Ring camera footage shows the 3-year-old Schnauzer wandering out for a bathroom break in La Verne on Saturday around 9 p.m. when the cougar suddenly appears.

Holly Jolly is alert to the approaching beast as it snarls and suddenly tries to jump out to pounce and pin the dog in its jaws.

“I heard a scream and my husband said, ‘Is that holly?'” said one of the owners, identified only as Nicole. told KTLA.

“I said, ‘No, I think that’s the TV,’ and he said, ‘No, I think that’s Holly.’”

Nicole and her husband, Steve, noticed frightening barks and cries coming from their backyard and began screaming to scare the mountain lion away from their 93-pound pet dog.

“As soon as I heard the intensity of the fighting, I knew I couldn’t make it,” Steve said. “I was imagining a skunk or something messing with her here, so I went inside her and grabbed her gun.”

The couple said this was the first time a mountain lion had come close to their family, even though their gated community is full of wildlife such as bears, coyotes and rattlesnakes, and the terrifying attack lasted only about a minute. It is said that it continued.

Holly was taken to a veterinarian where she was treated for puncture wounds, scratches and injuries that required stitches, but her family says she is recovering well.

“She enjoys all the extra love, extra treats, extra attention,” Nicole said. “She likes it now.”

The family shared a video of the alarming attack to warn neighbors of the danger.

“We wanted all our neighbors to know that this was bold enough to jump into their garden and attack a dog that was about the same size,” Steve said.

Steve now plans to accompany Holly to the backyard at night to ensure the safety of his beloved pet.
