DOJ Looking Into Whether Renee Good's Partner Obstructed ICE Agent

Investigation into Renee Good’s Shooting Incident

Federal authorities are looking into whether Becca Good, the widow of Renee Nicole Good, may have “obstructed federal officers” just before Renee was shot and killed during a confrontation in Minneapolis, according to a source familiar with the investigation speaking to NBC News.

This federal probe centers on the shooting of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer Jonathan Ross and is focusing on Becca Good. Specific details surrounding her potential connections to activist groups and the actions of Ross when he opened fire on Renee Good’s vehicle are still unclear.

Becca Good’s attorney, Antonio Romanucci, emphasized in a statement that “there has been no communication from the FBI or federal authorities indicating that Becca Good is the subject of an investigation.”

Officials from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Vice President J.D. Vance have stated that Becca Good, age 37, used her vehicle as a “weapon” against the officers and that Ross had no alternative but to resort to deadly force.

A video that has gained traction online shows Becca Good provoking Ross and other officers outside their vehicle. At the time, Renee Good was driving and her SUV was angled in a way that allegedly obstructed traffic, which authorities claim was intended to thwart ICE operations in the area.

In a dismissive tone, Becca Good reportedly told the ICE agents attempting to clear the vehicle, “You want to come at us. Go get some lunch, man.”

While another agent was trying to remove Renee from the vehicle, Becca Good allegedly shouted, “Drive, baby, drive!” However, some reports suggest that what she actually said may have been “Don’t drive!”—and it’s hard to know for sure.

Regardless of her words, Renee Good accelerated toward Ross, who was positioned in front of the SUV. As she sped away, Ross fired at the vehicle, fatally wounding Renee and causing her to crash into another parked car.

Following the incident, a different video reportedly showed Becca in distress, crying and saying, “It’s my fault.”

According to a Minneapolis Fire Department incident report, Renee Good was shot four times, sustaining injuries to her chest, arm, and head.

The investigation is focusing on aspects of the U.S. Code regarding “assaulting, resisting, or obstructing a federal officer.” Sources mentioned this to NBC News.

After the shooting, President Donald Trump referred to both Renee and Becca Good as “professional agitators.” The DHS called the attack on the ICE officer “domestic terrorism,” asserting that Ross acted according to his training.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche noted in a statement that there is currently “no basis” regarding the Office of Civil Rights’ investigation into the shooting.

Since the shooting, there have been numerous confrontations between activists and federal agents in Minneapolis, with violent protests occurring in a nearby suburb where individuals reportedly stole weapons and documents from vandalized federal vehicles.

The Justice Department is also investigating whether Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey were involved in obstructing federal immigration enforcement operations in the state.

Both leaders, along with other Democrats, have openly criticized ICE operations. Governor Walz, for example, has encouraged Minnesota residents to film ICE agents for potential prosecution.

Deputy Attorney General Blanche remarked that for a governor or a mayor to suggest calling 911 upon seeing an ICE agent could be very close to committing a federal crime.
