Acting Assistant Attorney General Emil Bove wrote a letter Monday to representing the US attorney for the Southern District of New York (SDNY) calling on SDNY to stop federal lawsuits against Mayor Adams (DN.Y.).
In September, Adams was charged with charges that included bribery, solicitation of campaign contributions from foreigners, conspiracy and wire fraud. After being charged against him, Adams pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The memo sent reportedly cited President Donald Trump's executive order to combat the weaponization of law enforcement and federal immigration policies.
“You are directed to dismiss the pending charges of US v. Adams as approved by the Attorney General. As is practicable, the following conditions will be followed: the defendant shall not be able to qualify for the Hyde Amendment. You must agree in writing that it is not a general party underneath… and based on a consideration of all relevant relevances, following the mayoral election in November 2025, the Southern District of New York. Bove wrote in a memo that the matter will be reviewed by a confirmed US lawyer.
“The Department of Justice has come to this conclusion without assessing the strength of the evidence or the legal theory underlying the case. This is an issue that is currently postponed to US law firms,” Bove continues. Ta. “And as I said at a recent meeting, this directive will raise questions about the integrity and effort of the prosecutor responsible for the case, or the efforts to guide the prosecutor in relation to issues you have inherited. There is none.”
Bove added: “However, the Department of Justice has determined that for two independent reasons, a dismissal is necessary, subject to the above terms.”
Bove also added, “to increase the timing of recent public action by former US lawyers responsible for launching the case and pretrial publicity for bias that risks affecting potential witnesses and ju-seeker pools. “Including this, it poses a threat to the integrity of the lawsuit.”
“It cannot be ignored that Mayor Adams criticized the previous administration's immigration policies before the charges were filed. And the official actions of a former US lawyer were announced on February 5, 2025. It created a false appearance that involves concerns raised in the “Memorandum of Understanding on Recovery.” “The Department of Justice's reliability and the reliability of Executive Order 14147, entitled “End of Federal Armsization,” Bove wrote.
“These actions and underlying incidents improperly hampered Mayor Adams' campaign in the 2025 mayoral election,” he added.
But Adams is not completely safe yet. Bove's letter looks like this:
“We cannot target Mayor Adams or additional investigative measures, and you are also instructed to take all measures in your power to restore Mayor Adams' security clearance. ” he wrote.
Adams responded to the verdict on Monday, saying there was little information on the matter.
According to a video posted to X, Adams said, “We have just been notified that DOJ may be communicating with our local U.S. lawyers' office here. [my lawyer] First, better understand that you now understand exactly what is going on.
This memo comes after Adams and Top DOJ officials recently met with a lawyer representing him at the DOJ.
Additionally, Adams met with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago real estate just before taking office in January.
In December, Adams proposed that he was indicted after speaking out against the Biden administration's loose “catch and release” border policy after opposing the way Biden's liberal immigration policies ran out of national resources. did. demand.
