DOJ slaps Title IX lawsuit on Maine over state’s refusal to ban trans athletes in women’s sports

Attorney General Pam Bondy released a civil lawsuit against Maine on Wednesday over her refusal to comply with Trump administration policies, except for transgender women’s competitors from girls and women’s sports.

The Department of Justice has accused Maine of being Flouting Title IX.

“It’s not just a matter of sports, it’s a matter of public safety,” Bondy told reporters. “These boys are allowed to go to women’s toilets. They are allowed to go to women’s dressing rooms and be completely naked and transformed… in front of these young women.”

“We are also considering whether to retrospectively withdraw all funds we receive because we are not compliant,” AG added.

President Trump signed the executive order on February 5th, directing the education sector to “take all appropriate actions to positively protect all women’s athletic opportunities and all women’s locker rooms,” clarifying that “women’s sports are reserved for women,” and resolve outstanding lawsuits in a way that “consistent with this policy.”

A few days later, they competed under the name “Katie” from Greeley High School in Cumberland to win the Class B Girls State Championship at Paul Vaulting.

That same week, Trump clashed with Democratic Maine Gov. Janet Mills during a White House event, screaming that she would “be better adhere to” the order.

The rebellious Mills shot back, “See you in court.”

The Trump administration warned Maine, California and Minnesota earlier this year that it would not tolerate state officials who ignore federal law.

The Education Bureau later launched a civil rights investigation into Maine, where Trump demanded an apology from Mills “full ringing” after UMS, the state’s network of eight public universities, agreed to comply with the order.

“Maine discriminates against women for not being able to protect women and their sports,” Bondy said Wednesday. “It’s pretty basic. This is a violation of Title IX. The Department of Justice doesn’t sit when women are discriminated against in sports.”

“We’ve exhausted all other treatments,” AG explained. “We tried to get Maine to follow us. We don’t like standing up here and filing a lawsuit. We want to adhere to the state.”

“Today is the latest expected salvo in an unprecedented campaign to pressure Maine to ignore the constitution and abandon the rule of law.” Mills responded in a statement.

“The issue has never been about school sports or protection of women and girls. As allegedly, it is defending the rights of states and the rule of law over the federal government that has involved imposes that will instead of supporting the law.”

Bondy is joined by Education Secretary Linda McMahon and former college swimmer-turned conservative activist Riley Gaines.

“The Trump administration is not clear for all state sports leagues and educational institutions,” McMahon emphasized. “We take women’s civil rights violations very seriously. I have three granddaughters and I want to make sure they are treated fairly.”

Last month, the Ministry of Education compiled my survey and introduced the findings to DOJ.

The DOJ also cut $1.5 million in federal grants from the Maine Department of Corrections, and the Department of Agriculture also announced that it would withdraw funds to protest the state’s handling of transgender issues.

State officials have sued the Trump administration over a freeze on funding.

“Let’s make this a notification [to] California, Minnesota [and] Such – If you do not comply with federal law, you will not be able to enjoy the benefits of complying with federal law. Of course, one of those benefits is receiving federal funds,” Gaines warned.

State Sen. Laurel Libby, a state lawmaker for opposing Maine’s policy on transgender athletes in women’s sports, denounced her state for refusing to be upset.

“Maine Democrats have doubled the far left agenda, with students and families poised to lose hundreds of millions of people in federal funding,” she said in a statement.

“Their radical gender ideology puts them at risk, contrary to the will of the Maine citizens, the ongoing presence of women’s sports and the punishment of Maine students.”
