Dolly Parton Heading to Broadway
Dolly Parton is set to dazzle audiences on Broadway with her new musical, “DOLLY: A True Original Musical,” which is scheduled to debut this winter. Tickets will be available starting July 8.
The renowned country music artist announced this thrilling news on social media, hinting at an intimate musical journey for her fans.
“It’s not merely about the narrative; it’s about the sheer gleam and joy,” she expressed.
“This is my story—reflecting on my roots, my experiences, the losses I’ve endured, the love I’ve felt, and my path forward.”
“Music has always been a critical part of my journey,” Parton added.
She shared a sneak peek into the musical, mentioning it will showcase some of her beloved hits along with fresh tracks crafted specifically for the show.
“This is genuinely a dream realized,” Parton remarked. “I’m eagerly looking forward to sharing it with all of you.”
According to her representative, the Broadway show will be directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher and co-written by Emmy Award winner Maria S. Schlatter.
The premiere coincides with a significant date: January 19, 2027, which is Parton’s 81st birthday. The production will take place at the St. James Theater in New York.
“My entire life has revolved around musicals. It feels like the Grand Ole Opry! With wonderful directors, sets, and choreography, we have everything we need to create an extraordinary performance! I can’t wait to see you there!” Parton expressed in a statement.
Director Bartlett Sher commented, “Dolly has never fully shared her story before. While she’s provided bits and pieces, this musical will allow her to convey her unfiltered narrative in her own voice.”
Shah concluded, “As she gears up for Broadway, I’m thrilled to reveal that rhinestones are just a part of who she is.”
The musical will celebrate classic favorites like “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “9 to 5.”
