It's all about the journey of newly signed dolphin quarterback Zach Wilson.
Shortly after agreeing to a one-year $6 million deal with Miami, Wilson, 25, spoke honestly. On Wednesday, he spent three rocky seasons about his “challenging” time with the Jets on Dolphin's “Drive Time” podcast.
“Looking back, I hope I could have done better. I probably approached it differently, but at the end of the day, I think it's all part of the story.” Wilson said.
“Learning from those experiences and those struggles ultimately took me here and hopefully I can take advantage of the opportunity here if possible.”
Wilson, the second pick of 2021, arrived in New York with high expectations after being drafted as the successor to Sam Darnold, who flourished outside the Vikings and Tri-State area last season.
On a roller coaster ride from there, Wilson threw nine touchdowns against 11 interceptions in his rookie season, when the Jets finished 4-13.
He was benched in his sophomore year as he did not fall to the sword in a 10-3 defeat to the Patriots.
The Jets were intended to give Wilson a reset year in 2023 with the arrival of Aaron Rodgers, but the four league MVP suffered a season-ending injury to Achilles.
Wilson was thrown back into action and ended his Jets tenure with 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions in 34 games.
He was traded for the Broncos in his final offseason, and was the third QB on the depth chart behind Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham, respectively.
He faced Miami twice a year with the Jets, but Wilson is ready to take it all in his side hustle with his new coach, Mike McDaniel
“I think it's very suitable for what I'm looking for,” said Wilson, who signed on Monday and joined by his fiancee, Nicolette Delano.
“The type of attack, the amount of information I can learn from these guys. I don't think it was a better match.”
Dolphins were out of the 8-9 season and missed the playoffs.
