Don Lemon Discusses Legal Concerns Following Church Incident

In a recent interview with Scripps News, former CNN host Don Lemon expressed concerns that the Trump administration might seek legal avenues to prosecute individuals connected to a break-in at a St. Paul, Minnesota church. This incident occurred earlier this month during a protest, which Lemon noted was not related to him personally.

“I don’t think this issue is resolved yet. It seems they might create or alter a law to go after people, regardless of whether it truly fits,” he explained to Alisyn Camerota, now at Scripps. He emphasized his own distinction from the protesters. “I was not part of that movement. All the evidence shows that I’m not linked in that way, despite what others might think. If they can say they got Don Lemon involved, then that’s a win for them,” he added.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Lemon confronted some protesters who interrupted church services, illustrating the tension surrounding the situation.

Justice Department’s Actions Towards Lemon

A federal judge recently dismissed an attempt by the Justice Department to take action against Lemon. “I’m not naive about this,” he noted, alluding to the persistence of legal challenges from officials like Tish James and Comey. “They often try multiple routes because they’re determined to save face, but I really can’t predict what could happen next,” he stated in the Scripps interview.

Lemon insisted they should not simply “stay calm and keep pushing through,” suggesting a more strategic approach is necessary. He mentioned that his actions were purely journalistic, reporting on protests against the local pastor, who some believed collaborated with ICE.

“It’s strange to think I was viewed as the focal point of these protests I was covering, especially since I wasn’t the only journalist there. The way this situation has been framed is really telling,” he remarked. He also highlighted the online hostility he faced, which seemingly escalated after his coverage and felt amplified by certain media narratives.

“If we’re investing energy in stirring division, wouldn’t it be better spent addressing critical issues, like looking into the tragic death that initially mobilized the protests?” he questioned. “I stand firmly by my reporting,” he concluded.
