Former CNN anchor Don Lemon has proposed that black and brown Americans, essentially “of all races,” should consider arming themselves legally in case Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents come knocking at their doors.
During a discussion on “left hook with Wajahat Ali,” Lemon emphasized that he wasn’t “condoning or promoting violence” but expressed frustration over how ICE agents “nitpick while on patrol.” He mentioned that people are often taken off the streets without due process and sent to conditions he compared to concentration camps.
“If you believe in the Second Amendment, if you believe in the Constitution, it doesn’t matter if you’re black, brown, Indian-American, or Mexican-American. Go out and get a gun legally. Get a license to carry it,” Lemon stated. He questioned, “When people come to your door and take you away without civil due process, isn’t that the very reason the Second Amendment exists?”
Lemon mentioned that he hopes his message resonates within the Trump administration. “No one is illegal,” he asserted. “Crossing the border is a misdemeanor. Sure, if you do it multiple times, it’s different, but it’s hardly a serious crime. We have much greater issues in this country, and what Trump did is really criminal, especially compared to someone crossing a border.”
In a response to these comments, Ali backed Lemon, saying Republicans should endorse the idea of arming citizens for their safety.
“I’m just sharing my thoughts, but Don Lemon has every right to voice his opinion here in America, which the Trump administration supposedly supports,” Ali said. He remarked, “If anything, I believe Republicans are on board with the idea that Americans should be able to bear arms legally unless they have a different agenda.”
Fox News Digital also reached out to Lemon, ICE, and the Department of Homeland Security for their perspectives.
In August, it was reported that assaults against ICE agents saw an alarming 1,000% surge since the start of certain immigration raids.
