Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) told Breitbart News on Monday that he and former President Donald Trump are prepared to take on any challengers.
In his first print interview since Trump selected him as his running mate at last week’s Republican National Convention, Vance said he and Trump were prepared for whoever Democrats nominate.
Though it’s not yet final or official, it appears Vice President Kamala Harris may secure the Democratic nomination, as Democratic President Joe Biden formally dropped out of the race on Sunday afternoon. Harris has raised tens of millions of dollars and garnered the support of most of the party’s elected leaders, including Biden himself. Though big names like former President Barack Obama have yet to endorse her, Harris appears well on her way to becoming the Democratic nominee.
“As President Trump has pointed out, Kamala Harris is responsible for the Biden administration’s bad policies, and so are other leading Democrats, so I really think this is going to be a fight with the entire Democratic Party establishment,” Vance said in a phone interview before a large rally in Ohio on Monday. “It doesn’t matter who they have to represent them. We don’t want open borders. We don’t want the inflation and price problems that Joe Biden has created. We don’t want a foreign policy that leads to war and destruction around the world. We want to bring back common sense and prosperity. That’s what President Trump and I will continue to advocate for. I think it’s important that we talk about what we want to do for the American people, because obviously the Democrats are going to continue to play musical chairs until they find someone they think can beat us. It doesn’t matter who the voters are. But we’re going to continue to campaign on our message, and I think that’s going to pay off for the American people.”
Now that Trump and Vance are officially the Republican nominees, Vance said he is open to debate either candidate.
“Of course, I am prepared to debate who the Democrats ultimately nominate for vice president, and I’m sure President Trump is prepared to debate who the Democrats nominate. [for president]”We’re going to have a vigorous debate. We’re going to resist the Democratic insanity,” Vance said.
Vance also said the Democratic Party as a whole was to blame for the “disaster” of this administration because they had “covered up” Biden’s incompetence as commander in chief.
“The entire Democratic Party is responsible for the disaster of the last three years,” Vance said. “For three years, they knew Joe Biden was unfit to be president. For three years, they knew he was mentally incapable of representing America on the world stage. They lied and covered up until he became a political liability. So I think we have to hold Democrats accountable not just for their policies, but for the fact that they have saddled America with a president who cannot do his job out of pure political cynicism. That’s not good for anybody in the Democratic Party, because they were all complicit in this cover-up.”
In an interview with Breitbart News on Monday, Vance said he was elated that Democrats were moving toward selecting Harris.
“When it comes to Kamala, she was a border patrol officer during a historic border crisis,” Vance said. “She actively supported those who looted and burned Minneapolis and other cities during the riots in the summer of 2020. She’s against law and order, she’s against police, she’s against border security. She’s against pretty much everything that our movement actually holds dear, and we’re going to be harshly condemning whoever it is and we’re going to be having a robust debate across the country.”
Vance even went so far as to say Harris may be the “only” Democrat worse than Biden to nominate for political purposes, and said the process by which Democrats removed Biden and replaced him with Harris or someone else was “corrupt” and anti-democratic, an attempt by Democrats to take away the voice of millions of voters.
“She may be the only Democrat who’s worse than Joe Biden,” Vance said. “As you say, she supported a ban on fracking, which would weaken our country and make us more energy dependent. It would also greatly undermine the prosperity of working people in Pennsylvania. She supports open borders and thinks it’s racist to oppose it. She supported the Green New Scum, which has driven up the prices of food, housing, and everything else. She is frankly even further left than Joe Biden or anyone else in the party, which is part of why they’re trying to get her into office through this corrupt process instead of leaving it to the voters. Obviously, Democratic primary voters are going to disagree with me on a lot of issues, but they haven’t changed their mind enough to nominate someone like Kamala Harris. That’s why they’ve been running this corrupt process of pretending that Joe Biden is OK and then appointing Kamala Harris or somebody else at the last minute. The Democratic elites don’t want to give the Democratic voters a say in the outcome because they know that far-left policies will lose even in a Democratic primary.”
