Donald Trump endorses Arizona Republican running for post overseeing Maricopa County election results

Former President Trump on Thursday endorsed retiring Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-Ariz.), who is running for the office responsible for certifying elections in Maricopa County.

Lesko, who is retiring as representative for Arizona’s 8th Congressional District, is running for the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors in the 4th Congressional District.

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors is made up of five district supervisors and “sets the agenda and approves the budget which allocates funds to all departments and elected positions.” According to Maricopa County.

Among the supervisor’s responsibilities is the certification of county election results, a role worthy of note. Because supervisors resisted the pressure campaign The county was carried by Biden during the 2020 election in an effort to overturn the results of the presidential election, which Biden narrowly won by beating President Trump by just two points.

Trump praised Lesko as a “fantastic woman in Congress.” In a post on his Truth Social platform.

“Debbie, a great friend of MAGA, has been with us from the beginning, fighting hard against Impeachment Hoax #1, Impeachment Hoax #2, and understanding better than most that there was a lot more bad going on. Now Debbie is running for Maricopa County Board of Supervisors,” Trump wrote.

“She will work tirelessly to protect our elections, protect our communities, secure our border, stop immigrant crime, grow our economy, and defend the Second Amendment, which is constantly under attack. I have my full support for Debbie Lesko. She will never let you down!” he added.

Lesco X said in his post She said she was “honored” to receive Trump’s endorsement.

“I look forward to working with President Trump on behalf of the great people of our country when he returns to the White House!” she wrote.

Arizona is one of the few battleground states that could decide this fall’s presidential election, and Maricopa County played a key role in determining Biden’s victory in the last election.

In the 2022 Arizona gubernatorial election, Governor Katie Hobbs (Democrat) defeated Republican Kali Lake by just two points, but Lake is contesting the results.
