Donald Trump Leads Joe Biden in Michigan Post-Conviction

Former President Donald Trump is leading President Joe Biden in Michigan, a key post-conviction battleground state, according to a Mitchell Research/MIRS News poll.

The survey, conducted on June 3, just days after a Manhattan jury found Trump guilty on all 34 charges in his controversial business records trial, showed Trump narrowly beating Biden with 48.2 percent approval, compared with Biden’s 47.6 percent, a difference of 0.6 percentage points.

In races that also include third-party candidates, Trump’s lead widens even further, with 46.3% support to Biden’s 45.1%, a margin of 1.2 percentage points. Notably, Biden won Michigan by less than 3% in 2020, or less than 155,000 votes.

In Michigan, Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is leading the state with 3.3 percent of the vote, followed by Independent candidate Cornel West with 1.1 percent and Green Party candidate Jill Stein with 0.5 percent.

The survey was conducted among 697 voters and had a margin of error of plus or minus 6.9 percentage points.

A Mitchell Research poll looking at the Michigan race before Trump was convicted came up with similar results, with Trump leading Biden in both head-to-head contests and those involving third-party candidates.

Breitbart News elaborates:

In a head-to-head matchup, Trump’s approval rating in the state is 49% to Biden’s 47%, 2% higher.

In the five-way race, which also includes independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Green Party candidate Jill Stein and independent Cornel West, Trump still leads with 46 percent support, Biden with 45 percent, Kennedy with an additional 5 percent, and Stein and West with 1 percent each.

“Trump is ahead in this binary race because he has consolidated the Republican base more than Biden has consolidated the Democratic base,” according to Steve Mitchell, president of Mitchell Research and Communications, a theme that is common in other polls.

In other words, at least in Michigan, a conviction has not yet benefited Biden in terms of garnering additional support.

Trump vowed to keep fighting the jury’s verdict but made it clear that “the real verdict will be handed down by the American people on November 5th.”

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) is among the Trump supporters who believe a prosecution of Trump would not end well for the Democratic Party.

“The whole idea of this is they don’t want to talk about inflation. They don’t want to talk about the border. They don’t want to talk about wars going on around the world because that’s a disaster. Biden doesn’t want to take responsibility for that,” said Vance, a possible running mate for Trump. Breitbart News Saturday.

“This is clearly about politics and I think the American people see through that,” he said, noting that the left’s aim is to portray Trump as a “convicted criminal.”

“I don’t think it’s good for them and I think this is kind of a backfire story, to borrow one of my favorite lines. Happy Gilmore“They’ve not only energized the MAGA base, they’ve energized many ordinary, apolitical Americans who know that if they can charge all of Trump with 34 felony counts for paperwork violations, even if their claims are successful, they’re going to use the justice system against all of their opponents,” the senator said.
