In a hypothetical general election showdown, former President Donald Trump has a 5-point lead over President Joe Biden in North Carolina, according to a Meredith College poll.
poll, published Monday’s poll showed 44% of 760 North Carolina registered voters sampled said they would support Trump in a head-to-head contest with Biden, who received 39% of responses.

The poll follows a Bloomberg News/Morning Consult survey of seven battleground states released Friday that showed Trump leading Biden 49% to 39% in North Carolina. “According to the Meredith Poll, President Trump’s lead in North Carolina appears to have remained very stable since the last administration. Even though Republicans have withdrawn from the race, Nikki Haley has momentum in the state. Apparently not,” Meredith Polling Director David McLennan said in a release.

The poll also measured the gubernatorial primary race in the Tar Heel State and found that Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson (Republican) was leading with 34% support in the Republican primary race. Lawyer Bill Graham is next with 9% and state Treasurer Dale Falwell with 4%.
On the Democratic side, Attorney General Josh Stein is the frontrunner with 31 percent support, but no other candidate received more than 5 percent of responses.
If Robinson and Stein faced off in the general election, Stein would lead 39% to 35%. Nine percent said they would vote for another candidate, and 17% remained undecided.
All samples were collected between January 26 and 31, 2024, and the complete sample confidence interval is ± 3.5 percentage points. Confidence intervals were not specified for key Republican aspects of the poll.
