Former President Donald Trump is leading the presumptive Democratic nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, nationally, and is trailing her by double digits among young people and independents, according to a Quinnipiac University poll.
In opinion polls, Published Monday’s poll found that 45% of voters support Trump to 41% for Harris.

The poll was conducted from July 19 to July 21, the day after journalist Mark Halperin published his shockingly accurate report that Biden had dropped out of the race on Sunday. Harris came in just one point ahead of Biden, who is trailing Trump by five points in the crowded race.

In the Trump-Harris matchup, independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is trailing with 6 percent, followed by Green Party candidate Jill Stein with 2 percent. Independent Cornel West and Liberation Party candidate Chase Oliver are each receiving 1 percent.
The 45th president holds a sizable lead over Harris and the other candidates among both younger people and independents: 47% of respondents ages 18-34 support the president, while just 29% back Harris.

He also leads Harris by 15 points among voters aged 35 to 49, while Harris has a 10-point lead among voters aged 50 to 64 and those aged 65 and over.
Of the six candidates, Trump leads Harris among independent voters, 46% to 32%.
These trends also apply when it comes to a hypothetical choice between President Trump and President Harris, with the 45th President leading overall but by a narrow margin, 49 percent to 47 percent.
In this scenario, independents would trump Trump 55% to 41% over Harris. Trump also receives the support of 58% of voters ages 18-34, while 39% of that age group support Harris. The 45th president holds a 10-point lead among respondents ages 35-49, while Harris holds an 8-point lead among those ages 50-64 and an 11-point lead among voters ages 65 and over.
The poll was conducted among 1,257 registered voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 percentage points.
