Donald Trump Neck-and-Neck with Joe Biden in Key Swing States Post-Conviction

Former President Donald Trump is neck and neck with President Joe Biden in key post-conviction battleground states, according to the latest FAUPolitical Communication and Public Opinion Research Lab/Mainstreet Research poll released Tuesday.

The survey Participated May 30-31, 2024. Of note, news that a Manhattan jury found Trump guilty on all 34 charges in his business records trial was announced on the afternoon of Thursday, May 30, meaning that at least half of the investigation was conducted after the verdict.

The poll found Trump narrowly ahead of Biden in two key battleground states, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, where Trump leads Biden by one percentage point among likely voters, 41 percent to Biden’s 40 percent, but Biden leads when third-party candidates are included.

In Pennsylvania, Trump leads Biden among likely voters by two points, with 47% support in the Keystone State compared to Biden’s 45%.

The results are also close in Michigan, with the two candidates tied among all voters, but Biden leads by one point among likely voters with 47% support to Trump’s 46%.

The overall polling margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points, meaning that all head-to-head results between Trump and Biden are within the margin of error, effectively showing them as tied.

“Right now, neither side has a significant advantage in the three states,” said Dr. Dukong Kim, an associate professor of political science at Florida Atlantic University (FAU).

Biden narrowly beat Trump in battleground states in 2020, winning Wisconsin by 0.7 percentage points, Pennsylvania by 1.2 percentage points and Michigan by 2.8 percentage points.

Trump has vowed to fight back, but many in his camp believe these legal battles will backfire on the left if they continue.

“I think a lot of ordinary people aren’t as interested in politics as you and I are. They’re saying, ‘Enough is enough. I can’t take it anymore. This is crazy. We’re going to fight back,'” said Republican Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio, a possible vice presidential running mate for Trump. Breitbart News Saturday.
