Donald Trump Offers Condolences After Death of Pope Francis

President Donald Trump responded Monday morning to an announcement from the Vatican where Pope Francis passed away.

The Catholic spiritual leader was 88.

Pope Francis was promoted to the role in March 2013 following the historic resignation of his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI. Originally from Argentina, he was the first Latin American leader of the Catholic Church.

The late Pope has been troubled by poor health in recent years.

He briefly met with Vice President J.D. Vance and his family on Sunday evening in his hotel room after delegating the public celebration to another cardinal for his illness.
