Trump supports hegesth as management denied suffering from “dysfunction”

US President Donald Trump said he supported Secretary of Defense Pete Hegses as a line over the use of signalling messages amid a series of chaotic failures from the administration that had serious consequences.

The legal battle with Harvard appears to have been caused by letters sent to the university by the administration.

Trump said criticism of Hegses was “fake news,” the actions of a disgruntled former employee, and pursuing the issue was a “waste of time.” Hegseth is accused of sharing military details between two different signal chat groups.

White House spokesman Harrison Fields denied the administration was dysfunctional, saying, “You can’t make so many outcomes work.” He did not specify what outcome the administration was proud of.

A government professor at Georgetown University told the New York Times that it was reasonable to expect the Trump administration to “have more discipline this time.” The shortage of senior officials and advisors in positions around Trump, many of which have been replaced by campaign loyalists compared to his first term, and have been criticized in several quarters for his chaotic performance.
