Donald Trump urges the nation to not let ‘evil win’ and ‘fear not’ after shooting

The 78-year-old Trump was at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when a sniper fired eight shots at him, leaving him with a bloody ear, killing at least one spectator and wounding two others.

“Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers yesterday. Only God prevented the unthinkable. We remain fearless, stand firm in our faith and stand against evil,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“Now more than ever it is important that we come together, show our true character as Americans, stay strong, stay resolute and don’t let evil win. I love this country with all my heart.”

“Our hearts go out to the other victims and their families,” Trump said, as his team launched a fundraiser for the victims.

Police said the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Pennsylvania, was neutralized by the Secret Service.

The 78-year-old former president also stressed that he still intends to attend the Republican National Convention, which is being held in Milwaukee from Monday to Thursday.
