President-elect Donald Trump's landslide victory has pushed 48 states to the right, according to data from the Associated Press.
This shift represents the largest shift to the right since Ronald Reagan's victory in 2980.
“Democrats didn't just lose big'' Axios reported Friday. “They lost to racists, misogynistic fascists, and convicted felons whom they derided as existential threats to democracy.”
Early data shows that Mr. Trump performed very well among a demographic that typically leans Democratic, detailed in Axios.
The states that have moved the most to the right include many Democratic-controlled states, including California, New York, Connecticut, Illinois, and New Jersey. Florida and Texas also move significantly to the right.
Not only did Trump win re-election, Republicans are likely to retake the Senate and take control of the House of Representatives.
Democrats were shocked by the Republicans' huge victory. Some blamed the losses on misogyny, while others blamed the pandemic and Democratic-fueled inflation.
“The pandemic and rising prices have created headwinds for democratic incumbents around the world, and last night showed America is not immune,” former President Obama wrote on Wednesday.
