Donna Mills Responds to Critics Over Makeup Comments
Donna Mills, famous for her role in “Knots Landing,” has pushed back against remarks about her appearance. The 85-year-old actress took to Instagram on Sunday to respond to a user who claimed she wears “too much makeup for her age.”
In the video, Mills sported a black leather jacket over a lace-trimmed tank top and jeans, with her blonde hair styled in soft waves. Her makeup featured rosy blush, pink lip gloss, and smoky eyeshadow. With a laugh, she acknowledged the criticism by saying, “Looks like you didn’t get the memo.”
The video transitioned to Mills dressed more casually, donning a white ruffled blouse, glasses, and her gray hair pulled back. She quipped, “Is this what you wanted me to see? I’m sorry, I’m not sorry.”
Mills proudly stated, “I love the way I look. This is my style, and style has no expiration date.”
In her post, Mills stood firm with the caption, “I said what I said,” accompanied by a white heart emoji. Her comments quickly drew support from fans and fellow celebrities.
Dawn Robinson of En Vogue commented, “Most of those comments are from dusty old ladies who are jealous of your beauty.” She added that Mills defies aging by choosing confidence and youthfulness. Meanwhile, “Real Housewives” star Kyle Richardson expressed her love for Mills’ response, and actress Octavia Spencer showed her support with fire emojis.
Another fan remarked, “A real queen,” and a different commenter wrote, “Goddess Donna, you’ll never know how not to be stunningly beautiful forever!”
Mills is best known for her portrayal of the scheming Abby Cunningham in the iconic soap opera “Knots Landing,” which aired from 1980 to 1989. She often did her own makeup on the show to avoid long sessions, a practice she learned from working with top makeup artists.
In a previous interview, she shared how she picked up skills over the years, stating, “I found out what they did and how they did it. It takes less time for me than it does for others.” Mills prefers to do her makeup at home while multitasking, like watching TV.
Mills also discussed her 1986 makeup tutorial, “The Eyes Have It,” which she produced and starred in. The video received various inquiries about her makeup techniques, prompting her to create beauty kits for QVC.
Reflecting on the experience, she said, “I financed it, hired a director, and didn’t expect it to be this big of a production, but it was fun.”
