Tragic Incident in South Florida
A well-known real estate agent in South Florida, her ex-husband, and their two young daughters were found dead in what authorities are investigating as a murder-suicide.
On Tuesday evening at around 7:32 p.m., officers from the Doral Police Department were sent to the Doral Isles neighborhood, an upscale area of Miami, to conduct a welfare check.
The victims have been identified as 46-year-old Melanie Hyer, 42-year-old Ryan Whiten, and their daughters, 11-year-old Savannah and 8-year-old Sienna. The Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office reported that all four had stab wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene. As of now, police have not disclosed details regarding who inflicted the injuries.
Detectives from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Homicide Bureau have taken over the investigation. Hyer was recognized as a prominent real estate agent, while Whiten was noted as a real estate project manager based on their social media accounts.
The former couple had been co-parenting their two daughters, having divorced but, at one point, announcing they had remarried.
Doral Mayor Christy Fraga expressed her sorrow in a statement, saying, “As a mother and someone who personally knew and admired the loving and devoted mother at the center of this tragedy, this loss hits especially close to home. My heart aches for their loved ones, classmates, teachers, friends, neighbors, and all who are grieving during this incredibly difficult time. Please join me in praying for this family and for the healing of our community.”
Whiten’s ex-wife claimed that his relationship with Hyer was tumultuous and that they often argued concerning their daughters. She expressed her shock at the incident, remarking, “He was always very kind to his daughters and loved them deeply. I don’t know what happened.”
The local elementary school that the daughters attended also issued a statement expressing sorrow over the loss. “Our community is saddened by the loss of two of our beloved students. We extend our deepest condolences to their families, friends, and school staff. These students will be greatly missed,” said a spokesperson.
