Rep. Doug Emhoff fired back at former President Trump for his criticism of his wife, Vice President Kamala Harris, who ran for president.
Trump, who often gives nicknames to his political opponents, called Harris “Laughing Kamala” and “Liar Kamala” on his social media platform, Truth Social.
“Is that all there is to him?” Emhoff said Tuesday when asked by reporters about the former president’s comments about his wife.
“You heard the vice president make the case against Donald Trump yesterday,” Emhoff said. “She made the case very clearly, directly and persuasively. But she also laid out a vision for the future, a vision where there is freedom. A vision where we don’t have to talk about the issues of today in the post-Dobbs hellscape that Donald Trump has created.”

Harris launched her presidential campaign on Sunday night after President Biden announced he was ending his reelection campaign. Harris secured enough delegates on Monday night to secure the Democratic nomination, though the party’s nominee will not be formally chosen until next month’s convention in Chicago.
“We will prosecute Donald Trump and his lies, his gaslighting during the COVID-19 pandemic, his dereliction of duty, his incitement of insurrection, and all other charges,” Emhoff said.
“We’re going to make that clear,” Emhoff continued. “She’s going to be able to make her case. We’re also going to get out of an environment like Dobbs, where your freedoms are being taken away, your autonomy is being taken away. They’re telling you not to read this book. They’re telling you not to know these facts. They’re telling you not to vote. All of this will and needs to change.”
Harris has been raking in the cash since her campaign began, raising $81 million in her first 24 hours, the most ever raised by a presidential candidate in 24 hours, and $100 million raised by Monday night since Biden dropped out on Sunday afternoon.

The campaign said that more than 888,000 grassroots donors contributed in the past 24 hours, with 60% of them giving for the first time in the 2024 election cycle. The campaign also announced that 43,000 of those donors have signed recurring donation agreements.
The amount raised by Harris far surpasses the roughly $53 million the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee raised through online digital fundraising platforms in May, within the first 24 hours after former President Trump was convicted of 34 felony counts in a criminal trial in New York City.
“You see the enthusiasm and the excitement,” Emhoff said. “You see the money that’s been raised. You see the party coming together. You see how she’s garnered a broad base of support in just a day or two because she’s talking about an America where we all have a place. Kamala Harris has united the party. She’s going to unite the country. If you see that happen, she’s going to win this election.”
