Dr. Frank Turek Discusses Support for the Death Penalty

Dr. Frank Turek has publicly supported the death penalty, arguing that it aligns with Christian beliefs. He shared his thoughts with Fox News Digital, emphasizing his position despite the fact that the individual accused in the assassination of Charlie Kirk is, without a doubt, guilty.

“We have to approach this carefully. It’s crucial to confirm beyond a reasonable doubt that the person is really guilty,” Turek stated.

He cited various Bible verses that he believes back the death penalty. “Romans 13 mentions that leaders don’t wield the sword without cause. This, in his view, relates directly to capital punishment,” he explained. Turek added a significant point from the New Testament where Pilate claims authority over Jesus, to which Jesus responds, acknowledging that such authority is divinely granted.

“The government has the right to impose the death penalty for serious offenses,” Turek reaffirmed.

He expressed concern about the principle of “turning the other cheek,” especially in cases of severe crimes like murder. “Some argue for turning the other cheek, but that’s a misunderstanding. Different people receive different commands. If the government ignores these issues, it could lead to chaos and safety concerns,” Turek noted.

He emphasized that rights are endowed by the Creator, with the role of government being to protect those rights. Referencing James Madison, Turek commented, “If everyone were angels, we wouldn’t need government.” He believes that the purpose of government is to safeguard the innocent and uphold their rights.

According to Turek, America’s foundational rights are from God, not from any governmental authority. He even quoted Thomas Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence, highlighting that all men are created equal and endowed with inalienable rights, such as life and liberty.

Turek remarked, “The government does not grant rights; it is meant to ensure them,” as discussions continue regarding the potential death penalty for the suspect in the aggravated murder case.

In light of these topics, Dr. Turek will be participating in the Turning Point USA tour alongside comedian Rob Schneider at the University of California, Berkeley.
