Dr. Terry Dubrow Discusses Cosmetic Surgery Trends

Dr. Terry Dubrow, a plastic surgeon famed for his appearances on reality shows like “Botched” and “The Real Housewives of Orange County,” has recently shared his perspective on the growing obsession with cosmetic surgery. He suggests that both celebrities and everyday individuals are increasingly seeking these procedures in a quest for “perfection.” Dubrow remarked, “Aging is starting to feel wrong.”

He further elaborated, mentioning that some individuals might experience something called body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), which leads them to perceive their appearance in a more negative light. While this issue touches many, it often leads to decisions about surgery purely out of a desire for an unrealistic standard.

Interestingly, Dubrow linked the rise in cosmetic procedures to the influence of social media, pointing out how filters and advanced technology create distorted images of reality. “It’s like we’re all striving to match some ideal version of ourselves that isn’t even real,” he commented.

From his viewpoint, there’s a disparity in societal acceptance regarding cosmetic procedures: female celebrities seem to be under more pressure to undergo visible changes. “For older actresses, a subtle difference is sometimes acceptable, but if it changes significantly, like in Jennifer Grey’s case, it can affect their careers,” he noted.

Jennifer Grey, known for her role in “Dirty Dancing,” expressed in her memoir how her nose job drastically altered her career and sense of identity. “One night, I lost everything,” she wrote, reflecting on how a single decision reshaped her public persona.

While discussing other celebrities, Dubrow praised Brad Pitt for maintaining a consistent look. He noted, “He looks like himself. There’s no dramatic alteration.” Although Pitt hasn’t publicly acknowledged any procedures, he has shared thoughts on maintaining his appearance, emphasizing a holistic approach to health.

Another figure Dubrow commended was Lindsay Lohan, stating, “I think whatever she did, it worked for her.” Though she hasn’t confirmed any surgical interventions, Lohan has spoken candidly about her use of Botox and other non-invasive treatments.

Dubrow also expressed admiration for other male actors like George Clooney and Matt Damon, saying, “They haven’t dramatically changed and seem to know how to age gracefully.” He believes their results come from a mix of lifestyle choices beyond just dieting and exercise.

On a personal note, Heather Dubrow shared her current approach to beauty. “I prefer non-surgical solutions for anti-aging,” she admitted, asserting that her focus lies more on strength and wellness than just physical appearance. She recalled seeing Goldie Hawn carrying her granddaughter at an age she admired, saying, “That’s the kind of vitality I want to have.” Her aim is to lead a fulfilling, active lifestyle, rather than fixate on conventional beauty standards.
