Two of the most feared words in sports betting are the “Drake Curse.”
The famous rapper lost another bet, this time being robbed of $700,000 in cryptocurrency for backing UFC fighter Sean Strickland in his middleweight title fight against Doricus du Plessis. Oops.
Strickland, the reigning champion, lost a split decision in a match in Drake's hometown of Toronto that nearly ended in a coin toss.
Strickland's decision loss was controversial, as UFC president Dana White said Strickland was the one who scored in the fight, but media members' opinions on who won were divided.
This isn't Drake's first bet in the UFC. He has historically been a big MMA bettor, but he hasn't had much success.
Drake's curse with UFC gambling dates back to when he appeared on stage with Conor McGregor before his title fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229.
McGregor suffered a submission loss in his 2018 bout.
In September of this year, Drake bet against Israel Adesanya in his final middleweight title fight as the heavy favorite against Strickland.
Strickland dominated the fight as the heavy underdog, falling short of his $500,000 bet on a knockout win over Adesanya.
Adesanya is a -400 underdog at BetMGM Sportsbook.
Drake's weakness in the gambling department was becoming the stuff of legend, and even the new champion needed to rub salt into the wound.
“Oh, I almost forgot, thank you @Drake” Du Plessis, new champion Said in X's post After winning the belt.
It's important to realize that Drake isn't making these bets in a Las Vegas casino or anything like that.
