Chicago Bears Defeat New England Patriots in Week 7

In a thrilling matchup, the Chicago Bears overpowered the New England Patriots with a 30-24 victory on Thursday night, improving their record to 5-2. It seemed like the Bears had the game comfortably in hand.

A turning point came when Drake Maye, playing for New England, threw a crucial interception in the end zone during the second quarter. That costly mistake really put the Patriots in a tough spot, forcing them to play catch-up for the rest of the game. This marked Maye’s third interception thrown in the end zone this season.

Despite the close score, New England was nearly in a heap of trouble going into halftime, but a 48-yard touchdown run by Rhamondre Stevenson helped them avoid a larger deficit. Chicago’s defense, which has been generally solid, appeared to falter on that play.

Caleb Williams, returning from a hamstring injury, had quite an impressive performance, passing for 308 yards and throwing two touchdowns. He seemed to be on a roll, though you’d think reporters might have been a bit more curious about his injury, the way he confidently brushed off their questions.

Al Michaels, the veteran play-by-play commentator, struggled a bit during the broadcast, accidentally describing a play as a “fumble” that didn’t even happen. He also mistakenly referred to Caleb Williams and Drake Maye as being drafted in 2014, which, well, definitely didn’t sit right given they joined the NFL in 2024.

In the final moments of the game, Chicago’s strategic clock management shone through, allowing the team to secure a game-ending 58-yard field goal by Cairo Santos. That kick not only sealed the win but also was a nod to his former coach, who probably couldn’t help but grimace from the sideline.

As for Drake Maye, he wrapped up the night with 321 passing yards and two touchdowns, but of course, that interception will be haunting him for a while.

Looking ahead, the Patriots have a chance to regroup against the Dolphins in Week 8 after this setback, as they now sit with a 4-3 record. It’ll be interesting to see how they bounce back.
