Draymond Green made unfounded accusations of Karl Anthony Town's absence from Tuesday's game against the Warriors, claiming that the Knicks star missed the contest because he didn't want to face Jimmy Butler.
The comments came out with a particularly bad taste after Towns' longtime girlfriend, Jordyn Woods, revealed in an Instagram story on Thursday that he lost “one of the closest people to me after losing the battle with breast cancer yesterday.”
The town before Thursday's game with the Lakers called his absence “one of the moments when I had to be there for my family” after rejoining the Los Angeles team.
The superstar was officially removed from Tuesday's game for “personal reasons,” and the Knicks fell to the 114-102 Warriors in the yard.
However, Greene argued about the town's absence during his podcast released Wednesday – although he admitted that he “didn't look too deeply” into the issues surrounding town.
“It was a big game for us,” Green said. “And obviously, they don't have a cat. Some people will say that Jimmy was in the building and he didn't play. I don't know.”
“I saw Cat's pop in the game yesterday. I got incredible love for OG, his pop is an incredible guy. But yeah, they say that Cat didn't play because Jimmy came to town. You know he and Jimmy were having infamous practice in Minnesota.”
He continued later: “I don't know what hurts. I didn't look deep into it to understand what his injuries were.”
The town had returned to its starting lineup with the Lakers.
